Subaru Legacy BN/BS (2015-2019) Service Manual: Dtc b1823 short in side airbag rh (to +b)

DIAGNOSIS START CONDITION:

Ignition voltage is 10 V to 16 V.

DTC DETECTING CONDITION:

Short circuit failure in power supply (shorted in main harness power supply, shorted in front seat side airbag RH power supply, shorted in airbag CM internal circuit power supply)

CAUTION:

Before performing diagnosis, refer to “CAUTION” in “General Description”. General Description > CAUTION

WIRING DIAGRAM:

NOTE:

For the coupling connector, refer to “WIRING SYSTEM”.

STEPCHECKYESNO

1.CHECK POOR CONTACT OF CONNECTORS.

Check for poor contact of the connectors between the airbag control module, side airbag module RH and the side airbag sensor RH.

Is there poor contact-

Replace the airbag rear harness along with body harness.

2.CHECK AIRBAG REAR HARNESS (SIDE AIRBAG MODULE HARNESS RH) (SHORTED TO POWER SUPPLY).

1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF, disconnect the battery ground cable, and wait for 60 seconds or more.

2) Disconnect the connector (AB26) from seat belt pretensioner RH.

3) Disconnect the connector (AB22) from seat cushion airbag module RH.

4) Disconnect the connector (AB24) from side airbag module RH.

5) Disconnect the connector (AB33) from curtain airbag module RH.

6) Disconnect the connectors (AB6, AB17, AB18) from airbag control module.

7) Measure the voltage between connector (AB24) of side airbag module RH and chassis ground.

CAUTION:

Connect the terminal in test harness AT to connector (AB24) terminal, and apply the tester to test harness AT.

(AB24) No. 1 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

(AB24) No. 2 (+) — Chassis ground (−):

Is the voltage less than 1 V-

Replace the airbag rear harness along with body harness.

3.CHECK AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE.

1) Connect all connectors other than side airbag module RH connector (AB24).

2) Connect the battery ground terminal and turn the ignition switch to ON.

3) Clear the memory. Clear Memory Mode

4) Perform the Inspection Mode. Inspection Mode

5) Read the DTC. (Current malfunction) Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

Is DTC B1823 displayed-

Replace the airbag control module. Airbag Control Module

4.CHECK SIDE AIRBAG MODULE.

1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF, disconnect the battery ground cable, and wait for 60 seconds or more.

2) Connect all connectors.

3) Connect the battery ground terminal and turn the ignition switch to ON.

4) Clear the memory. Clear Memory Mode

5) Perform the Inspection Mode. Inspection Mode

6) Read the DTC. (Current malfunction) Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

Is DTC B1823 displayed-

Replace the side airbag module RH. Side Airbag Module > REMOVAL

5.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTC ON DISPLAY.

Read the DTC. (Current malfunction) Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

Is any other DTC displayed-

Check DTC using “List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)”. List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

Finish the diagnosis.
