1. MODEL WITHOUT PUSH BUTTON START DTC DETECTING CONDITION: Immediately at fault recognition CAUTION: After servicing or replacing faulty parts, perform Clear Memory Mode Clear Memory Mode > OPERATION, and Inspection Mode Inspection Mode > PROCEDURE. WIRING DIAGRAM: Engine Electrical System ENGINE TYPE FB (WITHOUT PUSH BUTTON START) Engine Electrical System > WIRING DIAGRAM STEP | CHECK | YES | NO | 1.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTC ON DISPLAY. | Is any other DTC displayed- | Check DTC using “List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)”. List of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) | Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) > DTC P0616 STARTER RELAY "A" CIRCUIT LOW | 2.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND STARTER RELAY CONNECTOR. 1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. 2) Remove the starter relay. 3) Disconnect the connectors from ECM and starter motor. 4) Measure the resistance of harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector. Connector & terminal CVT model (B134) No. 46 — (B159) No. 4: MT model (B134) No. 46 — (B158) No. 5: NOTE: For CVT model, place the select lever in “P” range or “N” range. | Is the resistance less than 1 -- | Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) > DTC P0616 STARTER RELAY "A" CIRCUIT LOW | NOTE: Check the following item and repair or replace if necessary. • Open circuit of harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector • Poor contact of coupling connector | 3.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND STARTER RELAY CONNECTOR. Measure the resistance between ECM connector and chassis ground. Connector & terminal (B134) No. 46 — Chassis ground: | Is the resistance 1 M- or more- | Repair the poor contact of ECM connector. | Repair the short circuit to ground in harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector. |
2. MODEL WITH PUSH BUTTON START DTC DETECTING CONDITION: Immediately at fault recognition TROUBLE SYMPTOM: Failure of engine to start CAUTION: After servicing or replacing faulty parts, perform Clear Memory Mode Clear Memory Mode > OPERATION, and Inspection Mode Inspection Mode > PROCEDURE. WIRING DIAGRAM: Engine Electrical System ENGINE TYPE FB (WITH PUSH BUTTON START) Engine Electrical System > WIRING DIAGRAM STEP | CHECK | YES | NO | 1.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND STARTER RELAY CONNECTOR. 1) Turn the ignition to OFF. 2) Disconnect the connector from ECM. 3) Remove the starter relay. 4) Measure the resistance of harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector. NOTE: Place the select lever in “P” range or “N” range. Connector & terminal (B134) No. 58 — (B159) No. 4: | Is the resistance less than 1 -- | Diagnostic Procedure with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) > DTC P0616 STARTER RELAY "A" CIRCUIT LOW | Repair the harness and connector. NOTE: In this case, repair the following item: • Open circuit of harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector • Poor contact of coupling connector | 2.CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECM AND STARTER RELAY CONNECTOR. 1) Disconnect the connector from starter motor. 2) Measure the resistance between ECM connector and chassis ground. Connector & terminal (B134) No. 58 — Chassis ground: | Is the resistance 1 M- or more- | Repair the poor contact of ECM connector. | Repair the short circuit to ground in harness between ECM connector and starter relay connector. |
3. OUTLINE OF DIAGNOSIS • Model without push button start Detect abnormal continuity in the starter SW1. Judge as OFF NG when the starter SW 1 signal remains OFF. • Model with push button start Detect abnormal continuity in the starter SW 2. Judge as OFF NG when the starter SW 2 signal remains OFF. 4. EXECUTION CONDITION Secondary Parameters | Execution condition | Battery voltage | ≥ 8 V | Engine speed | Increase from 0 rpm to 500 rpm or more | Vehicle speed | < 1 km/h (0.6 MPH) | Starter relay command | ON |
5. GENERAL DRIVING CYCLE Perform the diagnosis only once after the enable conditions have been established. 6. DIAGNOSTIC METHOD Judge as OFF NG when the following conditions are established. Judgment ValueMalfunction Criteria | Threshold Value | Starter SW1 signal with battery voltage - 0.6 or more (models without push button start) Starter SW2 signal with battery voltage - 0.6 or more (models with push button start) | Not detected | Time Needed for Diagnosis: Less than 1 second Malfunction Indicator Light Illumination: Illuminates as soon as a malfunction occurs. |
