Subaru Legacy BN/BS (2015-2019) Service Manual: Removal

1. SEAT BELT OUTER - FRONT

CAUTION:

Refer to “CAUTION” of “General Description” before handling the airbag system components. General Description > CAUTION

Do not drop or subject the pretensioner to any impact.

Since the pretensioner and bracket are integrated as a unit, do not disassemble them.

If the hook - rear seat is disconnected from the vehicle body, make sure to replace the hook - rear seat with a new part to prevent the decline of the fixed force of the seat.

1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. NOTE

NOTE:

For model with the power seat, move the seat to the front-most position before removing the battery ground terminal.

3. Tilt the front seat backrest assembly forward, and move the front seat all the way forward.

CAUTION:

For the power seat, move the seat, disconnect the battery ground cable, and then wait for 60 seconds or more before starting work.

4. Remove the rear seat cushion assembly. Rear Seat > REMOVAL

5. Remove the cover side sill - front, cover side sill - rear, and the trim panel - center pillar LWR. (On the side where seat belt assembly is removed) Lower Inner Trim > REMOVAL

6. Remove the trim panel - center pillar UPR. (On the side where seat belt assembly is removed)

(1) Remove the cap (a), and remove the bolts.

(2) Remove the lower anchor bolt of the seat belt outer - front.

NOTE:

On passenger’s side, disconnect the connector of the seat belt tension sensor. Airbag Connector > PROCEDURE

(3) Release the clip by pulling the lower part of the trim toward you.

(4) Expand the claws outward, and remove the trim panel - center pillar UPR.

CAUTION:

Do not expand the trim panel - center pillar UPR excessively. Doing so may damage the trim.

If the claw is damaged, always replace the trim panel - center pillar UPR with a new part, because the damaged claw cannot hold the part sufficiently.

7. Remove the seat belt outer - front.

(1) Disconnect connector of the pretensioner. Airbag Connector > PROCEDURE

(2) Remove the bolt to remove the seat belt retractor.

(3) Remove the upper anchor bolt, and remove the seat belt outer - front.

NOTE:

Remove the bolts and remove the adjuster assembly - seat belt as necessary.

2. SEAT BELT INNER - FRONT

CAUTION:

Refer to “CAUTION” of “General Description” before handling the airbag system components. General Description > CAUTION

1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. NOTE

NOTE:

For driver’s side, lift the seating face before removing the seat.

For models with power seat, remove the slide rail installing bolt before disconnecting the ground terminal from the battery sensor.

3. Remove the front seats. Front Seat > REMOVAL

4. Remove the nut, and remove the seat belt inner - front.

NOTE:

For driver’s side, remove the metal clip holding the inner belt harness to the slide rail.
